Be a good listener

Be a good listener

“But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.” — Psalm 73:28 (ESV)

“Our testimony is not about how good we are, but about how good God has been. When we tell what He has done, we invite others to draw near to Him as well.” — Billy Graham

Sharing your faith doesn’t have to feel intimidating. My simple rule: don’t be weird. I love proclaiming the clear gospel whenever I get the chance, but most of my witnessing happens through listening—really hearing people’s stories. People will often share their struggles if you give them space, and that’s your opening. You get to point them to the One who’s been faithful in your own life: what He’s saved you from, how He’s carried you through trials, the transformation only He can bring.

A while back, I was ministering to a young homeless guy for over a month. One day I took him to lunch, fully intending to share the gospel. But the Lord prompted me to hold back—just listen. Instead of jumping in with what I wanted to say, I heard his story, showed up as a friend. Two weeks later, he came to our small group, gave his life to Christ, and we baptized him in our pool. That moment reminded me: sometimes the most powerful witness is presence and patience, creating room for God to work.

When we tell of God’s works—how He’s been our refuge—we invite others near to Him too. It’s not about perfect words; it’s about genuine relationship and pointing to His goodness.

Today, reach out to someone. Be a good listener, a real friend. Look for an opportunity to share how God has helped you overcome something they’re facing. One conversation, one person at a time—that’s how the world changes.

Have a great day! Draw near to God, tell of His works, and love someone well in His name!
