Eyes On Jesus

“And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, ‘It is a ghost!’ and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.’ And Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me.’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’” Matthew 14:25-31
“Peter’s faith faltered when he looked at the storm instead of the Savior. The Christian life is not lived by sight but by faith in Christ. Storms will come, winds will howl, but as long as your eyes are on Him, you will walk where others sink. Faith is obedience in the face of fear.” Oswald Chambers
Life, transitions, and everything happening in the world can shake our faith if we let it. Walking with Jesus isn’t for the faint of heart—it’s a wild ride. Sometimes He calls us out onto the water. How do we stay steady when the waves hit?
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
Cry out to Him.
Grab His hand.
Have faith.
Remember His nature and character. He will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Storms will come, but build your house on the Rock (Matthew 7:24-25). That’s how we make it through this crazy life.
If you feel like you’re sinking right now, cry out to Jesus. Fix your eyes on Him. Recall all He’s already done. Trust who He is. He will carry you through.
Have a great day keeping your eyes on Jesus!
