Give Thanks

Give Thanks

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“When joy and prayer are married, the firstborn child is gratitude.” Charles Spurgeon

Paul knew exactly what he was talking about when he wrote these words. Imprisoned, beaten, shipwrecked, and facing constant opposition, he still overflowed with joy not because his circumstances were easy, but because his eyes were fixed on something greater: Christ. In Philippians, he declares he can rejoice in the Lord always, even in chains, because knowing Jesus surpasses everything else.

Gratitude in all circumstances isn't natural it's supernatural. It's God's clear will for you in Christ Jesus. Yet when we stare at our trials, our joy gets stolen. Hardship, loss, uncertainty they drain us if we let them become the center.

So how do we live this out?

Paul points the way: Choose to rejoice, even when it feels impossible. Pray without ceasing bringing every burden, every fear, every moment to the Lord in ongoing communion. As we do, gratitude isn't something we manufacture or force; it becomes the natural overflow of a heart anchored in Him.

Fix your eyes on Jesus, not your circumstances. When trials hit as they did for Paul and as they do for us choose joy, keep praying relentlessly, and watch gratitude rise up unforced.

Give it a try today. Start small: thank Him in the middle of whatever you're facing right now. Rejoice because He is good and sovereign. Pray through it without stopping. Let gratitude be the evidence that joy and prayer are alive in your soul.

This is God's will for you right here, right now. You've got this in Christ.
