Go Make Disciples

Go Make Disciples

“And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’” — Matthew 4:19

“The church is not called to make church members; it is called to make disciples. A disciple is one who learns from Christ, obeys Him, and reproduces Himself in others. Anything less is not the gospel.” — A.W. Tozer

Jesus’ first words to His disciples were an invitation to follow Him—and a promise that following Him would turn them into fishers of men. His last words in Matthew 28 were the same mission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” It’s not a suggestion; it’s the Great Commission. Getting people saved is essential, but the mission isn’t complete until we disciple them—helping them become lifelong, obedient followers of Jesus who then make other disciples.

Discipleship is multiplication. A “come follow Jesus” call is always a “go make disciples” call. You’ll never feel fully “ready,” but you don’t have to be. A wise mentor once told me: “Be one chapter ahead of them in the Bible. That’s it.” You already have everything you need—Jesus Himself promised, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). The Holy Spirit will guide you, and the Word will teach both you and those you disciple.

It doesn’t have to look complicated. Pray today for God to highlight one person to pour your life into. Invite them for dinner, grab coffee, do a project together, or just listen over lunch. Show up consistently, share what Jesus is teaching you, and point them to Him.

A disciple is a lifelong obedient follower of Jesus—who then helps others do the same. Let’s be disciples and make disciples.

Have a great day! Pray for that one person, take the first step, and trust Jesus to make you a fisher of men. Get after it!
