Hearing God's Voice

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
“The sheep know the Shepherd’s voice because they belong to Him. It is not merely that they hear; they know it is His. In a world full of competing calls, the true disciple listens for the one voice that matters—Christ’s—and follows it without hesitation.” Charles Spurgeon
When I was 20, on a missions trip to Argentina, I knew God was calling me to missions. It wasn’t an audible voice, but it was clear. I felt it. I chose not to follow. For years after that, His voice grew faint because I wasn’t listening. I was chasing the “American dream”—the house, the dog, the family, retirement. The world’s voice was louder.
Then on July 9, 2014, I surrendered everything to Jesus. I went all in. That gentle whisper came back: come and follow Me to the nations. For the last 11 years, as I’ve obeyed and stayed in His Word, I’ve kept hearing Him. His voice guides me now.
Life still has storms. Challenges hit hard. But hearing God through Scripture every day has changed everything. I have peace with Him, even when things shake. It reminds me of the parable of the wise and foolish builders. The one who hears Jesus’ words and does them builds on the rock. When the storm comes, the house stands.
Following the Good Shepherd is the only way to live. It’s what we were made for.
Get in His Word today. Listen for His voice. Obey. Follow Him. It’s the best life there is.
Have a great day walking with the Shepherd!
