Honor the Sabbath

Honor the Sabbath

“And he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.’” Mark 2:27

“The Sabbath saved my life and helped preserve my family and helped preserve my career. I turn off my phone from Friday night to Saturday night. The world cannot reach me, and I get nothing from the world. It will bless you infinitely.” Charlie Kirk

The Sabbath, like every command in Scripture, is given for our good—not to burden us. When I tell my kids they can’t do something, it’s not to make them miserable; I know what’s best for them and I’m protecting them. That’s exactly how God gives us the Sabbath. He wants us healthy, rested, connected, and close to Him and the people He’s placed in our lives.

In a world of two or three jobs, constant notifications, 24/7 everything, DoorDash, and endless digital noise, burnout is almost inevitable. We scroll through life and wonder why we feel empty. The Sabbath is God’s built-in reset button—24 hours to step away, rest our bodies, renew our minds, worship Him, and reconnect with family and friends without the world interrupting.

Back when nothing was open on Sunday, life moved slower, families ate together, and people actually talked. Now everything is always available, and we pay the price with exhaustion and shallow relationships. But even in our busiest seasons, intentionally turning off phones, reading Scripture together, sharing about our day, and just being present has been life-giving for our family. It’s not about rigid religion; it’s about real relationship—with God and with each other.

The Sabbath was made for us. Jesus said so. Take it. Protect it. You’ll be glad you did.

Today, set aside time to rest, connect, and thank God for the gift of Sabbath. Turn off the noise. Sit with your family. Let your soul breathe.

Have a great day—honor the day God made for you!
