Let Your Light Shine

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” — Gospel of Matthew 5:16
“Let your light shine before men. Do not hide it under a bushel. The world is dark enough without you adding to the gloom. Shine—not to be seen of men, but that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Let your life be a sermon that points to Christ.” — Charles Spurgeon
Yesterday, I had lunch with a young man at In-N-Out Burger. I’ve always loved talking about Jesus or opening the Bible in busy places. You never know who might be listening—or who might be impacted just by seeing faith lived out in public.
Yesterday, it was Cindy.
She was working, wiping down tables, when she stopped and came over to talk to us. She said it encouraged her just to see people openly talking about Jesus. She even admitted that sometimes she feels hesitant to encourage others in her own workplace.
I shared a story with her from my time serving in the kitchen with YWAM. As I washed dishes and cleaned tables, I would pray over each one—that the people sitting there would have meaningful conversations about Jesus. What seemed like an ordinary job became a mission field.
You could see it click for her.
She began to realize that her workplace isn’t just a job—it’s an opportunity. A place where her light can shine.
That’s the power of living out your faith in public. You never know who’s watching, who’s listening, or who might be one moment away from being encouraged.
Yesterday, it was Cindy.
Today, it could be someone else.
So go—let your light shine. You might inspire someone else to do the same.
Have a great day.
