Read your Bible
“…from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:15-17
“You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, training them up in God’s fear, and making your household a church for God as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of Hosts.” Charles Spurgeon
Over the last 11 years in missions, nothing has served me more than a consistent life in the Word. I’ve tried all kinds of discipleship programs and equipping methods—they’re helpful—but the foundation is always pointing people (especially the next generation) straight to the sacred writings.
Yesterday at church, a survey showed prayer and worship scoring high, but Bible reading ranked lowest. That’s no coincidence. When we drift from the Word, society drifts too. Congress once funded Bibles as school textbooks. Since the 1960s, we’ve pulled Scripture and prayer from schools—and we’ve seen the drift accelerate.
As believers, we must know what God says. Scripture is authoritative, God-breathed, meant to be read together. It’s strange, beautiful, life-changing, and part of the story we’re living in. It makes us wise for salvation, corrects us, trains us in righteousness, and equips us for every good work.
The way we change the next generation? Get in the Word ourselves and point them there. That’s how we train and equip them.
Today, open your Bible. Let it change you. Then send a verse to someone—encourage them to read. Let’s get after it.
Have a great day walking in the Word!
