Relationship vs Religion

Relationship vs Religion
“Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering.” Luke 11:52
“We can so easily replace a real relationship with Jesus with religious activity and traditions.” —Francis Chan
Man-made traditions and systems can block people from truly encountering Jesus. The religious leaders held the “key of knowledge” but refused to use it—and worse, kept others from entering. That warning still applies today.
Eleven years ago, everything changed for me not through new rules or programs, but through a real, living relationship with Jesus: daily time in His Word, honest prayer, and fellowship with believers who pointed me to Him. Real growth comes from going straight to Jesus—not traditions or idolizing leaders.
It breaks my heart to see prominent voices in the church fall into immorality, pride, or compromise. We can’t point people to man-made traditions, celebrity pastors, or inherited religion. Paul asked in 1 Corinthians 1:12-13: “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?” No—Christ alone!
Follow Jesus directly. Not your parents’ version of faith, not a famous preacher’s style, not even your pastor’s preferences. We each need our own personal relationship with Him—that’s what the world desperately needs.
To avoid pointing ourselves or others to man-made things:
• Get in the Word daily.
• Spend unhurried time with Jesus.
• Surround yourself with believers who keep pointing back to Him.
This keeps us strong, humble, and safe from the pitfalls we see in the news. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He alone is worthy.
This morning I’m choosing Jesus again. Join me. Go to Him today. Point others to Him and His Word. Have a great day walking close to the One who truly sets us free!
