Sustaining Zeal

Sustaining Zeal

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5

“I have learned to abide in Christ moment by moment. ‘Apart from me you can do nothing’ is not a threat—it is a fact. The branch does not struggle to bear fruit; it simply abides, and the life of the vine flows through it. My secret is this: daily, hourly, constant dependence on Christ. Abide in Him, and fruit will come.” Hudson Taylor

So how do I abide in Christ and sustain zeal for him?

  1. The word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Read through the Bible in a year.

Read ten chapters of the New Testament a day, six days a week.

Study individual books by writing your own simple commentary.

Study individual books using the inductive Bible Study method.

2. Prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Personal: Pray three verses over yourself daily.

Others: Select three individual and pray a verse over them daily.

Nations or issues: Select three nations, spheres or issues of injustice and pray a verse over each one daily.

3. Fasting (Matthew 4:4)

Partial fast/Daniel fast: abstain from sweets and meats.

Benedict fast: eat only one meal a day.

Liquid fast: going without solid food and drinking light liquids.

Media fast: abstaining form all forms of media.

Generosity fast: set aside normal expenses in order to give to others.

If you are feeling dull…give this a try. It always helps me. Have a great day!
