Sustaining Zeal

“I will not enter my house or get into my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” Psalm 132:3-5
“Psalm 132:3-5 captures the heart of a man who will not rest until God has a dwelling place among His people. The psalmist’s sleeplessness is not anxiety; it is zeal. True passion for God refuses to be satisfied with anything less than His presence. We need that same fire: no sleep, no ease, until Christ is honored and His kingdom advances.” John Piper
People who hate God won’t stop His kingdom from advancing. Apathetic believers will.
The psalmist’s zeal is inspiring. When I first gave my life to Christ, advancing the kingdom was all I thought about. It’s easy to let the cares of the world creep in and cool that fire.
How do we fight it?
I rekindle my own soul every morning. If I don’t put wood on the fire daily, it dies out. Getting up early, starting with worship, getting in the Word, praying for my family and the lost—these are the logs that keep the flame alive. It fights apathy and keeps the kingdom moving forward in my own life.
Let’s lose some sleep over the reality that 166,000 people die every day without knowing Christ. Why? Because Christians aren’t telling them there’s hope in Him.
This is how we create a dwelling place for God. We are His dwelling place. The more people know Him, the more the kingdom advances. That’s all He wants—His children reconciled back to Him. And He uses us.
So get on your face. Put a log on the fire. Go advance the kingdom. Overflow that zeal for the Lord onto others. Let them see Jesus in you.
Have a great day. Be a dwelling place for Christ today.
