The Great Commission

The Great Commission

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore… These words come from the risen Saviour who has all authority. Because He has it, we may go in His strength.”  — Charles Spurgeon

Jesus spoke these words as His final command before returning to the Father. He didn’t suggest we go — He commanded it. The harvest is still plentiful today, just as it was when He told His disciples to pray for laborers. People cannot be saved unless they hear the good news, and they cannot hear unless someone is sent.

That someone is you and me. Whether it’s across the street or across the ocean, our part is the same: pray for more workers and for teams going to the nations, give generously to support the work, and go tell others about Jesus right where we are.

We don’t do this in our own power. Jesus has all authority, and He promises to be with us always. The Holy Spirit gives us boldness to be His witnesses. One day we will see a multitude from every nation standing before the throne, and some will be there because we obeyed.

Today I choose to pray, give, and go in simple, faithful steps. Obedience starts now, not when it feels convenient. Jesus is worth it, and He is with me.
