The Power of Thanksgiving

The Power of Thanksgiving

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” Psalm 100:4

“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. The grateful heart is the happy heart. Thanksgiving opens the door to God’s presence and power.” Charles Spurgeon

I’ve been intentional about starting my morning time with Jesus through thanksgiving. I read Psalm 100:4, then write down 10 things I’m thankful for. It’s simple, but it really helps me enter His presence and lets Scripture sink deep into my heart.

This morning it hit me hard. As I thanked God for my family, for everything He’s doing and has done in and through us, memories from my old life in Phoenix flooded back—the confusion, the brokenness, the darkness. I remembered what God saved me from. He brought me out of that darkness and into His marvelous light. Salvation is the greatest gift. Why wouldn’t I want to share it with others?

When I’m truly thankful for what Jesus did on the cross 2,000 years ago, I don’t need motivation to spend time with Him, read the Word, or share my faith. It just overflows naturally. The brokenness we see in the world? Jesus is the answer.

This morning I’m overflowing with thanks. Lord, send me someone today to share this good news with.

Have a great day—enter His gates with thanksgiving and let it overflow!
