The Steadfast Love
“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:11-12
“It is great steadfast love. There is nothing little in God; His steadfast love is like Himself—it is infinite. You cannot measure it. His mercy is so great that it reaches from everlasting to everlasting.” Charles Spurgeon
When I started Bible school in 2017, I was reading through the Old Testament and saw something that wrecked me. From Genesis onward—ever since sin entered the picture—God relentlessly pursued His people. He rescued them from slavery in Egypt, provided the tabernacle as a way back into His presence, raised up judges, prophets, and kings to lead them... and time after time, they rebelled and rejected Him. I got so frustrated with Israel! “God is chasing after them, and they keep turning away—what’s wrong with them?”
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks: That was me. I was the one who wavered, the one who was unfaithful. The opposite of steadfast. Yet God’s pursuit never stopped—constant, persistent, unwavering. I was undone, tears and all.
During my first semester break from that intense program (where we read the Bible cover-to-cover five times and wrote our own commentary using only Scripture and a Bible dictionary), I picked up Charles Spurgeon’s All of Grace. Spurgeon described a similar realization, then pointed to Romans 5:8: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” That truth exploded in my heart. God knows we’ll waver and reject Him, yet His love remains steadfast—unshakable, infinite. All we have to do is receive it and follow Him.
That’s the scandal of grace: He removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. He doesn’t just forgive; He pursues relationship with us. His steadfast love is infinite, His mercy everlasting. This is the best news ever—not just to dwell on personally, but to share boldly!
God can show someone His steadfast love through you today. Tell them. Live it out. Have a great day resting in His unchanging love!
