Can Christian Hardcore Be Worship? 'Pipe Bomb' Front Man on Faith, Grief & Rage Ep. 73
Can Christian hardcore be worship?
Pipe Bomb front man Mitchell Layton joins us to talk faith, grief, and rage — and why holy anger still has a place in worship. Mitchell shares his full Christian testimony — saved at 5, losing his dad at 11, getting convicted by his own bandmates in high school, and walking through mental health struggles while fronting a hardcore band. We dig into his songwriting process for "Under God's Heel," how he directs anger in a way that's not sinful, and how God uses heavy music to reach people for the Kingdom. Whether you love Christian metal, Christian hardcore, or just need encouragement for faith and grief, this conversation is for you. In this episode:

Pipe Bomb
Pipe Bomb is the solo project of Mitchell Layton, featuring blistering vocals and dissonant guitars that conjure the ghosts of early 00s metalcore and mathcore bands like Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Chariot. Pipe Bomb was formed in 2023, almost by accident, when it released its debut single, "False God," on a whim and gained exposure on platforms like the Kingdom Core Podcast and NewReleaseToday's playlist, "New Christian Metal."
Creating a unique mix of modern hardcore, mathcore, and 00s-inspired chaotic metalcore, Pipe Bomb strikes a balance between old and new, drawing from atonal pioneers like Norma Jean, Botch, and Daughters, while embracing the aggression of newer heavy bands like Nails and Better Lovers.
Pipe Bomb is based in New Jersey, outside of Philadelphia.
