Be the Light

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:14-16
Billy Graham said it clearly:
“Christians are to be ‘the light of the world’ (Matthew 5:14), illuminating the darkness caused by sin and giving guidance to a world that has lost its way.”
We are called to shine — not to hide.
Too many Christians have adopted a passive, almost nihilistic mindset, saying “God is in control” while stepping back from culture and society. But that is not what Jesus taught. He commanded us to be actively involved — to let our light shine through our good works and our influence.
As believers living in America, one of the simplest yet most impactful ways we can shine that light is by voting. When we abdicate our responsibility as Christian citizens, we allow darkness and ungodly ideas to advance. Voting is not about trusting in government — it’s about being faithful stewards of the influence God has given us.
God is sovereign, yes. But He has still given us assignments. He expects us to occupy, to engage, and to advance biblical principles in every sphere we can — including the public square.
