Trusting God When Obedience Gets Hard

“Then Moses turned to the LORD and said, ‘O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Why did you ever send me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people, and you have not delivered your people at all.’” — Exodus 5:22–23

Moses obeyed God, and things immediately got worse.

That is an important reminder: obedience does not always make life easier.

Sometimes God gives us a promise, we step out in faith, and instead of seeing immediate breakthrough, we find ourselves in an even harder place.

I know that feeling.

Since I believe God called me to reach America, there have been battles, losses, unexpected setbacks, and seasons when I've questioned what God was doing. We walked through a global pandemic. We've watched things not go the way we hoped. And just recently, we spent nearly two weeks in the hospital with our little boy, wondering what the outcome would be.

There have been moments when I've wanted to ask God, “Why?”

And Exodus 5 reminds me that it's okay to bring that question to God.

Moses did.

He didn't pretend everything was fine. He took his confusion, frustration, and pain directly to the Lord.

Faith doesn't mean we never have questions. Faith means we take our questions to God instead of walking away from Him.

When things get hard, fix your eyes on Jesus.

Remember His faithfulness.

Remember what He has said.

Remember what His Word says is true.

Our circumstances can change, but God doesn't.

Even when we don't understand His plan, He is still faithful.

When life gets hard, don't give up on God. Bring Him your questions. Bring Him your disappointment. Bring Him your fear. Bring Him your burdens.

Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

We were never meant to carry these things alone.

Trust Him.
Cling to Him.
Keep walking.

Even when you can't see what God is doing, you can trust who He is.
