Model What You Teach

Model What You Teach

“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

— Deuteronomy 6:7 (ESV)

“Train up a child in the way he should go, but be sure you go that way yourself.”

— Charles Spurgeon

Our kids are watching everything.

They catch our words, but they imitate our lives, both the good and the bad. I see my own strengths and weaknesses reflected in my children every single day. That’s a sobering reality.

We can teach our children to follow Jesus, but the most powerful lesson they will ever receive is not what we say, it’s what we live.

True discipleship starts at home. It’s not just teaching good principles. It’s modeling a genuine, wholehearted pursuit of Jesus in everyday life when we sit in our house, when we walk by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise.

Discipleship is simply this:

Following Jesus closely and helping others (starting with our own children) follow Him too.

Lord, help us to live what we preach.

Let our lives be a faithful example to the next generation.

This is how we raise godly children — and ultimately, how we change the world.
