Your Prayers and Giving

“Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.” — Acts 10:4 (ESV)
“I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare.” — C.S. Lewis
This week I received a call at 2 a.m. from a woman desperately asking churches for help with her electric bill. I was the only one who answered.
My first reaction was suspicion — Is this a scam?
But as she shared her situation, my heart was moved. The Holy Spirit brought Proverbs 3:27 to mind:
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.”
At that moment, the decision was no longer in my hands.
This is what genuine Christianity looks like.
Cornelius, a Gentile soldier, was described as a devout and upright man specifically because of two things: his consistent prayers and his generous giving to the poor. His prayers and alms rose as a memorial before God.
Our faith is not meant to be kept to ourselves. God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others.
When we care for the poor and those in need, we demonstrate the love of Jesus in a tangible way. It pleases God deeply.
Position yourself to be generous.
You will never out give God.
Look for an opportunity today to bless someone in need — whether it’s money, time, or simple kindness.
Have a great day!
